Day One: Lands End to Come to Good

Distance: 66.5 km / 41.3 mi

Climbing: 1,018 m / 3340 feet

Notes

A fairly straightforward day with some sections on gravel paths that are probably navigable on a pure road bike, but could be easily cut out in favour of tarmac.

The route is relatively short to allow time to get to the start (and because it's the first day).

The guys on the car park at Lands End waved us through without charge when we told them we were LEJOGers. The sign post, however, is in private hands and there is a charge for standing by it! (Although you get a professional photo for the fee).

There is also a signing in book in the hotel, but there is no corresponding book or other link with John O'Groats so signing is of questionable value.

Mousehole is good for a snack. Faster riders could pop in to St Michael's Mount if the tide is low.

The Royal Oak in Perranwell is a great boozer towards the end of the ride, but if you want to get all the hills out of the way first there's a Beefeater at the Premier Inn at Carnon Downs.
