WARNING: there is a significant issue with this route at its junction with the A358 just beyond Stoke St Mary. The planned route was not navigable when we attempted it due to overgrown vegetation on the Bridleway from Thornfalcon. It appears navigable at first but deteriorates after a kilometre or so.
There are two obvious alternatives from the point one meets the A538 (at a pub called 'The Nag's Head'):
1. Turn right onto the A538 and joust with lorries for a short distance on this dual carriageway, then take a left onto the A378, then left again at the next fork to Borough Post.
2. Continue North from Thornfalcon to Ham and then on to Knapp and from there to Borough Post.
Aside from the route error above this is a fabulous day's cycling with just one really steep hill just after Broadhembury onto the Blackdown Hills.
Be careful when coming off the plateau as the descent is also steep and twisty.
We struggled for stops, but took a slight detour via Churchinford where there is a boozer - The York Inn.
