Day Fifteen: Fort Augustus to Alness

Distance: 93.2 km / 58 mi

Climbing: 1206m / 3957 feet

Notes

From Fort Augustus the route takes General Wade's military road to the South East of Loch Ness. There is a long steady climb with beautiful views (on a good day) from the summit. That is followed by a long down hill to the banks of Loch Ness and a nice, quiet ride to Inverness.

We lunched at Foyers (early). Or you can wait to Inverness. Once through Inverness cross the Beauly Firth via the Kessock Bridge and you've completed a Scottish Coast to Coast.

Once we arrived on the North bank of the Beauly Firth we were told by a local that there had been problems with tourists running into cyclists while staring at Loch Ness. Not something we experienced, but worth bearing in mind.

You are now on 'The Black Isle' and follow NCN 1. Surprisingly flat and surprisingly industrial (see North Sea Oil).

Not much to report really save - be careful where you stay in Alness - it's worth doing your research.
